About Karen
she/her

Over the years, I've gained professional experience in a variety of psychiatric, school-based, early intervention, and community programs. Beyond this, my clinical work has been shaped by my personal experiences, particularly with postpartum depression and parenting a child with medical issues. With support, I learned to cope with these challenges and gained deeper appreciation for my own and my family's strengths. This process motivated me to increase my work with those experiencing pregnancy and parenthood difficulties. I went on to obtain advanced training in perinatal mental health and expanded my practice to include this focus.

Services

I treat adults and older adolescents and welcome clients of all identities and backgrounds. My approach varies depending on the issues presented, often drawing from cognitive-behavioral (CBT), relational, strengths-based, and mind/body therapies. In cases where medication may be helpful, I can recommend a psychiatrist or nurse practitioner and coordinate treatment. Regardless of the treatment plan, I put great value in creating a trusting relationship and nonjudgmental space. Clients have described our sessions as warm, practical and at times humorous.

Perinatal issues: I have expertise helping clients navigate a range of challenges related to having children, including infertility, assisted reproduction, adoption, miscarriage, medical and emotional complications during pregnancy or delivery, prematurity/NICU care, postpartum anxiety and depression, and adjusting to parenthood. In addition to current stressors, it's common for issues from one's past to emerge at these times, and for reproductive issues to affect relationships and other areas of life. Whatever the situation you may be facing, together we can build your resilience, confidence and hope, improve communication, and get needed support.

Payment & Insurance

Insurance: I accept Blue Cross/Blue Shield insurance. Other carriers may have out-of-network benefits which partially reimburse your costs, and I will provide you with receipts containing the information needed to submit claims to your insurer.

Self-Pay: Some clients prefer to pay privately for psychotherapy, which allows greater privacy and control over treatment. This is also an option for those whose insurance plan (other than Blue Cross) lacks out-of-network benefits for mental health. My self-pay rate is $150 per session. I hope that cost won't be a barrier to treatment, however, and may be able to adjust the fee in cases of need.
